Specialty Coffee vs. Capsule Coffee
What is the best option?
By choosing whole bean coffee, you not only eliminate the need for capsule production, but you can also enjoy coffee in its purest form and experience all the aromas and sensations it provides. All this without adding to your coffee budget. It is increasingly important to be aware of the negative impact that the commercial coffee process has on our lives. It is estimated that the amount of plastic used in the manufacture of coffee capsules amounts to 56 billion tons per year. Another widely used material is aluminum, which also requires attention and sensitivity on the part of its users due to the excessive extraction of this material and all the energy required for its transformation.
Comparing specialty coffee with coffee in capsules, the latter can achieve similar prices. If we take 1 kg of specialty coffee, which costs on average €30 (from which we can extract approximately 125 espressos), the price per espresso is around 24 cents. In comparison, coffee in capsules (from a variety of brands) varies between 30 and 41 cents.
Knowing that by consuming specialty coffee you are not only consuming a higher quality coffee but also reducing the impact of your environmental footprint, mainly by not producing coffee capsules. So, in your opinion, what is the best option for you and for the planet? Don't forget to compare prices, especially if you don't want to consider quality as the main factor.
We have our preference and this involves consuming specialty coffee from different origins or blends every day.
