Who is the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA)?

Quem é a Specialty Coffee Association (SCA)?

The SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) is an organization focused on specialty coffee that represents coffee professionals, producers, roasters, baristas, among others. Its main goal is to support all specialty coffee activity around the world, so that it becomes a fair and sustainable practice for everything it encompasses. The SCA is a non-profit organization.

Your story

The SCA was originally founded in 1982 in America by a small group of coffee professionals, called SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) and its aim was to create a forum where issues could be discussed and quality standards established for specialty coffee. A few years later, in 1998, the SCAE (Specialty Coffee Association of Europe) was founded by representatives of the European coffee community in London.

In January 2017, SCAA and SCAE decided to join forces and form a single association that from that moment on represents specialty coffee worldwide. They had around 10,000 combined members at the time and have grown and continued to grow in recent years.

Objectives

SCA is committed to making coffee better for everyone involved in the industry. SCA’s goal is to always champion sustainable growth through collaborative partnerships that prioritize mutual benefit and result in positive impacts for all. Every day, they work to improve the coffee industry, focusing on social, environmental and economic issues. Their vision is to be an effective, authentic and dynamic organization that gives voice to everything that encompasses specialty coffees around the world.

The mission of this entity is to inspire and expand a sustainable specialty coffee community, with interests in event creation, education and research.
